Decision to move abroad

I want to tell my success story.  My name is Sergii, I am 24 y.o. Now I am living in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Previously I resided in Kyiv, Ukraine and worked there as a meat boner.

Three years ago I decided to move abroad as I got to know about ILC services. My colleagues told me about employment opportunities in Ireland, Canada, Australia and many other countries. So I got interested and started to find out more information about vacancies at ILC web-page. I have heard many positive comments about this company. After I had acquired necessary skills and experience, I decided to try my fortune. It is too hard to live in Ukraine when you are young. I send my CV to ILC. Then I visited their presentation about employment programme at the meat-processing plant. I liked everything here. Later I had an interview with ILC staff and employer. That was the time where my way to Canada started. After that I had to pass medical examination, new interviews, English exam and wait for the processing of documents. All the difficulties were over when I received a call, got my visa and departed from Zhuliany airport. Everything has worked well on me as nowadays I am in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.

First days in a country

Now I am working at the meat-processing plant. I cannot say that it is an easy job but it feels like a good starting point of my new life. I work in favorable environment, everything is neat and clean. The company cares greatly about the quality of its output. I like my job and I am glad that I have got a chance to start new life in the new country.

I remember my first days very clearly. We came to Toronto and visited the Niagara Falls. Everything was unusual to me, people were kind-hearted and optimistic. Life in Canada is not such a fuss, people are happy, police assists everybody. People trust their national authorities and just enjoy their own life.

It is interesting to observe them. They are very hospitable. Special thanks shall be made to our employer who aided in our successful integration. We have a lot of impressions, pictures, and sweet memories. Then we had to depart for Calgary and to take bus to Red Deer. It was interesting to see wild animals at the roads. It seems that animals live better here than in Ukraine.

My work at meat-processing plant

Red Deer is a nice town where there is everything you need for life. Later we had our first trainings and working days at the plant. There are many advantages to work here: good attitude towards employees, benefits system, etc. Adaptation period was quick but it was quite hard to switch on English. The employer made everything possible to make sure that we settled in his company effectively. He arranged English training courses for us.  

Now I get accustomed to everything. I work at the conveyor line of meat balls processing.  In a little while I will start to work as a meat boner. I suppose there are many opportunities for promotion.  You just need to work, study English and you will pursue your goal. Many other employees with 5-7 years of experience tell they are satisfied with this job. It differs greatly from the one in Ukraine but you can get used to it quickly. Shift lasts till 2.30 p.m. so there is plenty of time to study English and have rest. We often go to the swimming pool and steam bath.

I like everything in this countryJ. I want to stay in Canada. There are many difficulties ahead but we will overcome them.

I recommend to move to work in Canada. However you should prepare yourself to overcome some difficulties as you will need to leave your relatives and beloved people at home. But I guess, everything has its price and you have to sacrifice something to get new life opportunity. Just try! Good luck to everyone. See you in Canada!
