Konstiantyn, a mechanic from Simferopol, tells his family story and life in Canada

We advise everyone who has the opportunity to move to Canada, do not hesitate and put all efforts to make this happen" , - tells Konstiantyn.

How we made a decision to work in Canada

Our family has been living in Crimea, in Simferopol. I worked as a mechanic and my spouse was  private entrepreneur. We were never thinking to go to work abroad and planned our life in Ukraine until the time we talked to my spouse's friend who lives in Canada. She moved to Canada to her husband whom ILC had assisted to find job and obtain Permanent Resident Status. Our friends told us about life in Canada, work conditions, social  guarantees for Canadians and foreign skilled workers.

Almost immediately we decided to find out more about any opportunity for us to work abroad and immigrate. This is  how  we applied to ILC and in 1.5 years  arrived to Canada.

Preparation and English training

The preparation process for Canadian was not easy, but it definitely worth it.

At first, we needed to  collect all documents for  all family members from various institutions and previous workplaces. Then, we had to wait for a decision from immigration office and  follow the other stages of the immigration process. But ILC insisted that we study English while the documents  were processed. They also checked regularly our progress in  learning English. Moreover, we had to go through several interviews with the employer and immigration consultant. Therefore we decided to start learning  English from the very beginning, not waiting for the date of departing for Canada.

The whole preparation procedure took much time and  efforts.  At the same time we continued working to earn for living. We followed the example of our friends and handed all paperwork to ILC who has experienced and well-qualified team.

First days in Canada

From the very beginning we have been very much impressed by Canada. Despite of the fact that the town we lived in was quite small, with the population of only 10000 people, it  has great number of  playgrounds, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, various parks and resorts. Everything is neat and prompt, people are very nice and friendly. We have been impressed that there were no people on the streets, everybody was using the car, , apart from us))

The adaptation period was easy for us. The greatest challenge was the language. I cannot imagine what we would do in Canada if we did not prepare in advance being in Ukraine. ILC  continued doing all the paperwork and informing us about the status of our immigration file. Half a year later we have become Canadian residents and started to make plans for our future in the new country that we enjoyed so much.

Work in Canada

Nowadays we live in a small and cozy town of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada. I work as a mechanic at the company specialized in maintenance and repairing of trucks, trailers and semi-trailers. Working hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including lunchtime. Sometimes we have overtime hours that are paid  additionally. I work in clean, warm and well-equipped shop with all the necessary tools. We have very amicable team of workers and supervisors who participate in work process the same way we do. I do the same job as in Ukraine but here we have other technical equipment, so I need to get used to it, to operate new tools, etc. Some work techniques may differ from the Ukrainian ones.  It's all very interesting.

After some time my spouse got part-time job as well, she also needs to take care of our child and  run our household. She is satisfied with her work and management staff, and her co-workers of the company she is employed at.

We advise everyone who has the opportunity to move to Canada, do not hesitate and put all efforts to make this happen.

But do not trust vain promises of doubtful intermediary agencies, use reliable information, assistants and find good English teachers.

See in you in Canada!
