Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has proposed new changes to citizenship language requirements. Under the new system, it will be mandatory for adult citizenship applicants to provide unbiased proof of language ability with their citizenship applications. Applicants will be able to demonstrate language ability by submitting one of the following:
• Results of a third party test;
• Evidence of completion of secondary or post-secondary education in English or French; or
• Evidence of achieving CLB/NCLC 4 in certain government funded language training programs.
Speaking and Listening will be the two language skills evaluated.
