PROVIDING COMPANIES WITH LABOUR MARKET SOLUTIONS. PROVIDING PEOPLE WITH LIFE OPPORTUNITIES

Roman, stucco-plasterer from Zvenygorod village, Ternopil region, tells about his job in Canada and assistance of ILC

Roman has shared his future plans: "First of all, I am planning to buy my own house and develop my business. Canada provides greater opportunities so it is easier to make future plans and there is no inflation here."

Cooperation with ILC

My name is Roman. In Ukraine I lived in Zvenygorod village, Ternopil region. I have worked at construction sites as most my friends did. One of them told me about International Labour Centre and I decided to find job opportunities abroad. At that moment economic crisis started to affect Ukrainian economy. As I worked at Kiev at that time, I provided all necessary documents to ILC at once. Some of them lacked but I was allowed to bring them later.

I am grateful to the employer who believed in me during our interview as I had few experience. The ILC started to process all the documents. It would be quite hard for me to obtain work permit on my own.

Stucco-plastering in Canada

I started to work at the construction company in Saskatoon where I have continued my employment till the present day. Now I am cooperating as a self-employed businessman with this company on the basis of mutual agreement to provide plastering services.

There is little difference between the jobs of stucco-plasterer in both countries: in Ukraine all the walls are made of brick, stone while in Canada most of them are made of wood. This specific construction feature causes the special installment of window frames that shall be plastered in a different manner.  Life security is of paramount importance here. Canadians follow it diligently unlike Ukrainians.

New life in Canada and first impressions

During my first weeks I was shocked as it was freezing cold there. The temperature reached 46 degrees C below zero! Later the weather became better. Everything was new for me there. Social security in Ukraine is worse than in Canada as nobody takes care of Ukrainian people, wonders how you live or whether you have money. Money decides everything in Ukraine.... But it is all different in Canada.

My future plans

As for my future plans, first of all, I am planning to buy my own house and develop my business. Canada provides greater opportunities so it is easier to make future plans and there is no inflation here.

I will not take responsibility to agitate people to move to Canada. I guess it shall be a personal decision. But if you took courage then you would need to treat this decision seriously and be patient. Everything will happen at the proper time, not immediately.
