This week we welcomed Dr. Bob McCulloch, the President of Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) to our ILC office in Kiev. During his trip, Dr. McCulloch learned more about our company's business activities and discussions regarding future partnership took place.
Dr McCulloch also visited the the E.Paton Electric Welding Institute where welder testing and assessments take place. He was completely satisfied with the new equipment which was purchased for the project as well as with the performance of the professional assessors. Currently, nine certified welding experts have passed special training to work in the Qualification Centre.
Dr McCulloch visited the Paton museum where he learned about the history of the Institute and looked at the artistic projects of previous students.
SIAST is a government-subsidized institution that offers post-secondary technical education and skills training. Approximately 13,000 students study at the SIAST campus and around 32,000 students take individual short-term training courses.
Our company started working with SIAST in 2007 seeking to ensure the skills recognition of Ukrainian workers. This partnership has led to 150 welders being certified according to Canadian standards and hired by Saskatchewan employers.
In 2012, we expect that the list of certifiable occupations will expand.
